A Little Bit of Romance: The Perfect Updo For Any Occasion!

Filed under Hair & Nails Look Your Best on Feb 18 13 by

Whether you’re having a night out with your girlfriends, getting ready for a day at the office, or primping for date night, an elegant updo is the perfect go-to hairstyle! Updos are easier than most women think. Todays updos have a bit more of an imperfect finish to them, making them much easier than the days of beehives and bouffants. A bit of frizz, a few pieces falling out, and a bump here and there are all part of what makes this style look fresh and modern. So don’t worry if it doesn’t turn out looking perfect—it’s not supposed to!

Inspired by this month’s holiday, I came up with an easy and romantic updo that anyone can recreate. This look also has a bit of a 60s vibe to it, which makes it even more fun to wear. It should only take you about ten minutes to put together once you get the hang of it!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Comb
  • Hairspray
  • Bobby pins
  • Brush

Here’s how to do it:

1. First, separate the front section of your hair from the back. I parted mine right behind my ears. If you don’t have thick hair, you can also part your hair in front of your ears so that you have more hair in each section.

2. Take the back section, using a brush or your fingers to gather it together, and then simply twist it up to your crown. Bobby pin to secure it. Try placing bobby pins horizontally into the twist, as this will ensure a tighter grip.

3. Separate the top section of your hair from the sides (the part should be approximately at the corner of your eyebrows). Tease the section while adding some hairspray for hold, and then smooth the top of the section to remove any large bumps. Pin this section so it meets the twist in the back. You can tuck and pin any ends that are hanging out as well.

4. Tease each side as you did the top part of your hair, and the gently brush it back and cross it over the pins you used to secure the top. This not only covers some of the other bobby pins, but adds some great texture to the back of the up do. Finish with a bit of hairspray, and you’re all done!

That’s all there is to it! Like I mentioned before, don’t worry if there are some bumps or pieces falling out of the twist—it just adds to the soft and easy going vibe. For a bit of extra flair, add a cute headband or bow to finish the look.

Enjoy ladies!
