The Powerful Beauty Secret Hiding in Your Kitchen

Filed under Look Your Best Makeup & Skincare on Jul 24 12 by

Hi lovely readers! Today I am sharing an amazing skincare product that most of you already have in your kitchen cabinet: baking soda. That sounds a bit odd, right? I thought so too when I first heard of the idea. We are all familiar with baking soda when it comes to cooking and cleaning, but it is actually an amazing and effective exfoliator for your skin. It helps give you that gorgeous and glowing skin that we all love to have.

Baking soda

There are so many benefits from using baking soda on your skin instead of a normal scrub. For one, it doesn’t have any rough beads or ground up nut shells that can often scratch your face and cause micro-tears on your skin. It also doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals, scents, or dyes that can be irritating to multiple skin types. Baking soda has a neutral pH, which means it will help balance your own skin’s pH level as well. And my favorite part of using baking soda is that it’s incredibly affordable. One box will last you quite a long time, and will only cost you a few dollars at most.

Want to know how to use this powerful beauty secret? Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Baking soda
  • Measuring spoons
  • Water/Facial Cleanser

Here are two ways you can add baking soda into your skincare routine:

1. Mix 1-2 teaspoons of baking soda in with your favorite facial cleanser. Wash your face as usual, making sure to completely rinse it off afterwards. Follow with your favorite toner and moisturizer.

2. After cleansing, mix 2 teaspoons with 1 teaspoon of water until you form a thick paste. After cleansing your face, apply the paste mixture and let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse off your face, making sure to get all of the baking soda off. Follow with your favorite toner and moisturizer.

I would recommend doing this only once or twice a week, depending on how much exfoliation you feel your skin needs. You definitely don’t want to over-exfoliate, as that can cause dryness of the skin. Baking soda does have a bit of a tingle to it when applied to your face, but don’t worry, it’s not harming your skin in any way. I promise you will notice a difference in your skin’s texture and smoothness after only one use. So go ahead, pull out that box of baking soda from your kitchen cabinet, and give your skin that gorgeous glow you’ve always wanted!
