Is He, or Is He Not?

This season of transition, like those in the past, has displayed multiple challenges and has forced me to call upon my faith over and over again. It has brought up many questions and I’ve been forced to explain myself over and over to curious and sometimes concerned family and friends.

But the lesson I’ve learned this time around is that peace comes in knowing who God is and continually reminding myself when I begin to forget.

During this transition, I’ve started doing something I like to call, “checking His credentials”. When I have trouble finding answers to my questions, or when it seems like God is being silent, I ask a new set of questions:

“Is He, or is He not, my creator?”
“Is He, or is He not, creator of the universe?”
“Is He, or is He not, creator of the heavens?”
“Is He, or is He not, creator of the oceans?”
“Is He, or is He not, creator of the stars?”
“Is He, or is He not, inventor of whatever it is that keeps the Earth in orbit and the sun rising?”

When I ask these questions, I am reminded that I get to choose whether or not to believe God is who He says He is. I find that I have two choices: I can question His resume and doubt that He is big enough to handle my problems, or I can trust and be comforted by knowing that He is more than qualified for the job. What I can’t do is pick and choose. I can’t believe that He is strong enough and faithful enough to keep the Earth spinning and the sun rising but not strong enough or faithful enough to handle my situation.

My prayer is that by “checking His credentials”, you will draw closer to Him, your worries and fears will fade, and you will have the opportunity to experience peace and joy in the midst of your transition and season of unanswered questions.

Note from Catherine: Life is all about transitions, and even some of the most exciting moments can be filled with worry and fear. If you ever want to talk about something you’re going through or share your story, feel free to comment here or send me an email. I’d love to get to know you and/or pray with you!

loved your article. Turning to who God is has also helped me too when waiting for something to happen. Remembering all God has already done for me and my family also helps me to just rest in the Lord and wait on Him. When nothing works I remember how I experienced the love of Jesus in a personal way and I am at peace, knowing He can do all things in His time.
