DIY Tile Coasters
Filed under Be Creative DIY Projects on Feb 24 12 by Allison ForsheyThese easy DIY coasters are super quick and easy to personalize—not to mention cheap! For this project, I reused tiles that I saved from a bathroom renovation and only paid 64 cents for felt! You can get felt “feet” to use instead of covering the back of the tile, but a sheet of felt is only $.25 and since the backs of my tiles were kinda messed up, I wanted to cover the whole thing.
(my messed up tile backs)
You will need:
- Tiles (I used three 4×4 and two 6×6)
- Felt (Any color, go crazy!)
- Glue (I used Elmer’s School Glue)
Step 1. After washing your tiles, measure them and then measure felt squares in the same size.
Step 2. Cut out the felt.
Step 3. Glue the felt to the back of the tile—put glue on the FELT not the tile!
(The glue marks disappear once it’s dry)
Step 4. Let dry for at least an hour.
Step 5. Use and enjoy!
Ways to personalize your tiles:
- Modpodge pictures/paper mementos onto the tile’s surface
- Use sharpie to draw a design
- Rubber stamp an image, word, or initials onto the tile
- Use contrasting or complimentary color combinations for the felt and tile
These are great for:
- Hostess gift
- Wedding favors and place settings (I’m planning on doing this!)
- Impressing your guests with what a creative hostess you are
