The Boston Bombings & The Latest Fashion Trends: It’s Time to Remember What’s Important

important

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that there’s been a lot going on in the news this past week. The bombing in Boston caused a lot of pain and devastation, and the manhunt that is still going on right now is just unreal. I spent most of my morning glued to my TV set, wondering if and when any new developments would be reported.

It’s a scary world we live in. What’s even scarier is that along with all of the headlines that point out the glaringly serious issues happening around the world are headlines about the latest celebrity breakups, the next fashion craze, and how much money celebrities are spending on their homes and clothing.

Yes, it’s true. Our world is falling apart, and some of us are still more concerned about what we will wear tomorrow than we are about what we can do to make a difference.

Yes, it’s true. Our world is falling apart, and some of us are still more concerned about what we will wear tomorrow than we are about what we can do to make a difference. There are people who would rather talk about Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez than how we can display God’s love to others.

This truth saddens me in a way that I cannot put into words. But God is powerful to change hearts, so I pray that His spirit will be in my words and will make known the truth that I so desparately desire to convey. God’s love is so vast and wide and deep, and we are here to share it with others. This must be of the utmost important to us! We must care about others more than we care about our “image”! We must be more concerned with displaying His love than we are with the latest celebrity gossip!

Allow God to show you His love, and ask Him what you can do to display it to the world.

I want to challenge you to remember what’s really important. It’s not your perfect styled outfit, your hair and makeup, or even that success you had on the job. This week, allow God to show you His love, and ask Him what you can do to display it to the world. Don’t let another national tragedy come and go without allowing this reality check to open up your heart to God’s purpose.

If you are the one struggling in the tension between the important and the superficial, don’t be discouraged! I am confident that God will show you the beauty of His purpose, if you are willing. I’ve heard a lot of talk about how awful “this generation” is. There are some who are willing to criticize this group of young people and to point out all of our flaws and insufficiencies, but God is going to show His power by using us in a mighty way. I am excited to watch as He changes hearts and unites us all for the cause He has on His heart.

Love,
Lauren
