Summer Drink Series: Sweet Tea Lemonade
Filed under Beverages Live Well Recipes on Jun 08 12 by Allison ForsheyI come from a “no sugar in the tea” kind of family. The first time I had southern style sweet tea, I was overwhelmed by the immediate sugar rush! This drink is a nice compromise for my sour lemonade loving self and my sweet tea loving fiancé.
Sweet Tea Lemonade
Yield: 4 glasses
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup simple syrup (directions below)
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- 4 cups water
- 3 iced-tea tea bags
- 1 sliced lemon
Directions for Simple Syrup
I always keep a large mason jar full of simple syrup in my fridge so I can make drinks in minutes.
- Combine sugar and water in a 1:1 ratio in a pan over medium high heat.
- Mix until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Cover and let boil for 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool.
- Store in the fridge in a covered container.
Directions for Sweet Tea Lemonade
- Place tea bags, simple syrup, lemon juice, and sliced lemons in a pitcher.
- Boil water then pour into the pitcher.
- Let tea steep while it cools to room temperature.
- Remove the tea bags and chill in the fridge.*
Note: I like a lot of tea flavor so I leave the tea bags in the pitcher!
