Summer Drink Series: Sweet Tea Lemonade

Filed under Beverages Live Well Recipes on Jun 08 12 by

I come from a “no sugar in the tea” kind of family. The first time I had southern style sweet tea, I was overwhelmed by the immediate sugar rush! This drink is a nice compromise for my sour lemonade loving self and my sweet tea loving fiancé.

Sweet Tea Lemonade

Yield: 4 glasses

  • 1/2 cup simple syrup (directions below)
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 4 cups water
  • 3 iced-tea tea bags
  • 1 sliced lemon

Directions for Simple Syrup

I always keep a large mason jar full of simple syrup in my fridge so I can make drinks in minutes.

  1. Combine sugar and water in a 1:1 ratio in a pan over medium high heat.
  2. Mix until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  3. Cover and let boil for 10 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool.
  5. Store in the fridge in a covered container.

Directions for Sweet Tea Lemonade

  1. Place tea bags, simple syrup, lemon juice, and sliced lemons in a pitcher.
  2. Boil water then pour into the pitcher.
  3. Let tea steep while it cools to room temperature.
  4. Remove the tea bags and chill in the fridge.*
Note: I like a lot of tea flavor so I leave the tea bags in the pitcher!
