Stacia Momany: Self Image vs God’s Image

Filed under Self Worth Your Heart on May 25 12 by

“Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.” 1 Peter 3: 3-4

This verse stirs my heart. Why? I fear that I put my external above my eternal. Do you fear the same? I understand as women why we feel that sometimes the external is more important. Look around. When I’m checking out at the grocery store and there is an image of a famous celebrity who is being harassed for gaining 5 pounds or not wearing make-up. It’s everywhere we turn. We feel that we may not be good enough. It’s so understandable. My fears and insecurities are so prevalent to me; I feel that everyone sees me the exact same way. You know what? The Lord loves us. He sees us as perfect and beautiful.

Our eternal is so much more important. Feeling peace about ourselves allows us to have the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. I may not always have a quiet spirit— I’m as sassy as sassy comes. We are all unique in our own ways. God created you specifically and intentionally. The best part about this verse is that the eternal beauty is imperishable!

Next time you are getting dressed, get dressed knowing you are already beautiful—no matter what you wear or how your hair looks. We are precious in His eyes. We need to remember and come together as women to build each other up. You are beautiful and He is in awe of you.

Stacia MomanyMy name is Stacia Momany.
My career is a patient experience specialist at a local dental company. My career goal is to open a vintage clothing boutique.
This summer, my must-have fashion item is printed shorts! I have seen them worn casual and dressed up and just love the way it turns out!
The TV show I can’t get enough of is Mad Men. I love the fashion and interior design.
I feel the most beautiful when the wind is blowing, sun is out and I can feel Gods love for me.
One day I’d really like to to attend a yoga class.
The passage of scripture that I live by is Matthew 6:25-27, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” I am a classic A type personality. This verse allows me to let go of the worry and control.

As women we love to celebrate beauty. I love celebrating my friends’ beauty, as well as, my own. We all have our flaws and I pray we, as women, can celebrate those as well.
