Margaret Barley: Living Adventurously with God

Filed under Walk with God Your Heart on May 30 12 by

I love adventure. I love the idea of taking off somewhere, jumping on the next plane to wherever. I love hiking, camping, and being outdoors. I catch myself yearning to travel the world, wanting to have “once-in-a-lifetime” experiences, to live my life, and live it with excitement!

But then my fear sets in. I get anxious and worried. All of the “what-ifs” start coming to mind. “What if I get lost? What if get ill? What if I run out of money?”

I compare this to my walk with God. I long to live an adventurous life with God, but often times I am afraid. I become afraid of what God might ask me to do, where he will send me, or what situations he will put me in. But when there are countless references to “be not afraid” in the Bible, there should be nothing stopping me from living fearlessly for God! 2 Corinthians 3:17 reads, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” Through Jesus we have complete freedom—freedom from bondage to our fears and freedom to live boldly for him. With God, we are boundless.

God call us to adventure—to view each day as an adventure with him, casting away our fears and trusting him in each moment. He calls us to let go of our own plans and be willing to follow wherever he leads. Life with God will never be dull or predictable; my life is a testimony to that! No matter how scary life seems or how treacherous that path may be, the good news is that God will never leave us. He is right by our side, always. Deuteronomy 31:6 says, “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” How sweet is that promise?

So let go of your plans, fears, worries, and anxieties. Allow God to free you from that bondage and get lost in an adventure with him, because honestly, that’s that best adventure you could ever have.

Margaret BarleyMy name is Margaret Barley.
My career goal I am currently in school studying Business with dreams to eventually own my own company. I’m not sure what that business or company will be but I’m leaving it up to God and trusting that he will provide!
My favorite beverage is coffee! Preferably Caramel Macchiatos, I just can’t get enough!
The most played song on my IPOD right now I am loving the song “Ships In The Night”, by Mat Kearney. “Danza Kuduro”, by Don Omar is also on repeat—I do some salsa dancing and I just love the latin beat in this song!
The passage of Scripture that I always turn to is Jeremiah 29:11-14, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declared the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I send you into exile.” To me, this is such a beautiful reminder that God has a plan and that his plans are far greater than any of mine. Not only does God has a plan but he hears us when we cry out to him, and he restores us. No matter what we are going through God always brings us back to him.
One day I would really like to backpack through Europe with friends, or compete in The Amazing Race with my dad!
