Uncovering Your Purpose: Holding On to Truth

Filed under Uncovering Your Purpose on Sep 30 12 by

This week’s post is going to be short and to the point. Sometimes in the worst parts of the battle, it can be really hard to stay focused on what we know to be true. There will always come a time when we have a choice to make: We can try to take care of the matter ourselves, or we can really trust that God has the ability to provide for us and to give us the victory. If you are in the thick of things and are having difficulty trusting God, here are three things to remember and some verses that support them.

1. If you are following God and fighting with his weapons, nothing can prevail against you.

“‘If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing; whoever attacks you will surrender to you. See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work. And it is I who have created the destroyer to work havoc; no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,’ declares the LORD.”
Isaiah 54:15-17

2. God always keeps his promises. In your life, it might mean trusting the promises that the Lord will provide for you. It could mean trusting that a loved one is really with Him after they pass away. Or it could mean holding on to the promises that the Lord has spoken over your life, even when they don’t seem possible.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
Isaiah 55:8-11

3. Praise God in the midst of uncertainty. No matter what you are going through, give God the glory and praise that is due him for his amazing works, even when they aren’t right in front of your eyes at the moment.

“Hear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Guard my life, for I am devoted to you. You are my God; save your servant who trusts in you.Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to you all day long. Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you. Hear my prayer, O LORD; listen to my cry for mercy. In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me. Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; they will bring glory to your name. For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God. Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths of the grave The arrogant are attacking me, O God; a band of ruthless men seeks my life– men without regard for you But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Turn to me and have mercy on me; grant your strength to your servant and save the son of your maidservant. Give me a sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, O LORD, have helped me and comforted me.”
Psalm 86, A Psalm of David
